Ascona - 9.2.2017 - The 33rd edition of JazzAscona will take place from Thursday June 22 to Saturday July 1 and will, once again, showcase great music with a program that features a convincing mix of experiences.

The festival, which sees Nicolas Gilliet in the role of musical curator, will be inaugurated by the young French soul talent revelation, Opé Smith, one of the opening weekend’s headliners.

As always, JazzAscona will feature a solid selection of New Orleans bands. Among them, the Soul Brass Band (best emerging band at the 2016 Best of the Beat Awards), The New Orleans Jazz Vipers (well-deserved winners of the 2016 Audience Award), Glen David Andrews & Twogether with their wild jazz-soul groove, The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Jass Band, a group of young talents that manages to be authentically traditional and progressive at the same time.

JazzAscona will furthermore celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday with the Players Ella & Louie Tribute Band project, which have been selected for the first round for Grammy 2016 nomination. The French Louis Prima Forever band is also among the first names announced for this year’s edition.
