As part of the "E…state a Locarno” event series, JazzAscona is pleased to present two double concerts on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd August, featuring the young French soul-blues band Miss Bee & The Bullfrogs and a trio led by Swiss guitarist Eliane Amherd.

Singer, guitarist and songwriter Eliane Amherd is a true cosmopolitan artist: Born in Switzerland, she lives in New York, and it is that city’s savvy multicultural energy that most influences the unique sound of her original compositions: jazzy, groovy and rooted in African, Brazilian and Latin music. Inventive, enchanted yet earthy.
A graduate from The New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music, she performs as a leader or a featured artist in New York’s most famous clubs like SOB's, Subrosa, Blue Note, Nublu, BAM, Brooklyn Bowl, BBKing etc. She also tours in North- and South America, Canada, Europe and Asia
Her two albums "Now and from Now on" and “Skylines" were both highly appreciated by public and critics.

The stunning frame of Locarno’s Piazza Grande will see Eliane accompanied by drummer and percussionist Zé Mauricio, founding member of both Beat the Donkey (winner of an Emmy Award) and Choro Ensemble (first ensemble who made the Carnegie Hall’s public discover the Brazilian “Choro” genre), as well as Roland Sumi, experienced bass player who shared the stage with artists like Paulo Mendonça, Paul Camilleri, Bruno Dietrich or Pippo Pollina, capable to move between various genres, from rock to blues, via funk and jazz.

The bluesy and soulful sound of this band is defined by the voice and saxophone of Maëlys Baey, who by the way has been a student and regularly performed alongside Sax Gordon, winner of last year's JazzAscona Audience Award (AET My Choice Audience Award). Miss Bee & The Bullfrogs had been selected as part of JazzAscona 2020 Groovin' Up project, focusing on young talents and they play the blues with an open, fresh approach, without forgetting the influence and inspiration of artists such as Freddie King, BB King, James Cotton, Etta James, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, John Mayer.

The band features Maëlys Baey on saxophone and vocals, Jean Guichemerre on guitar, Rémi Grangé on bass and Julien Feugas on drums, Miss Bee & the Bullfrogs opened for artists like Malted Milk, Nico Wayne Toussaint, Nina Attal etc. and are ready for their Swiss debut.
