JazzAscona, June is too soon!

The Midnight Lovers & The Horny Horns, JazzAscona 2017

The uncertainties regarding the arrival of musicians from the States, the pandemic’s evolution as well as future health directives are far too many for an event the size of JazzAscona, involving an entire town. Two and a half months before the 36th edition would have started, with great regret and disappointment, the organisers were therefore forced to throw in the towel. A small glimmer of hope remains regarding an alternative event, if the conditions will permit it...

The JazzAscona association stresses that faced with a situation dominated by so many uncertainties, renunciation turns out to be the only possible, responsible and reasonable decision. Until the very end, the organisers tried to steer the festival towards its 36th edition, scheduled from 26 June to 3 July.

The event was ready and full of exciting news and highlights, such as more than 40 musicians coming from New Orleans, numerous acoustic performances in the streets of the old town, many young Groovin' up project talents, as well as the long-awaited free entry for all 10 festival days.

Unfortunately, the current situation and the associated unknown factors make it impossible to stage such an event. The organisers are deeply saddened, but promise the many fans of the festival and people of Ascona, that if the circumstances improve and the conditions are right, they will propose an alternative event to be defined. As they say themselves: “We are a jazz festival, we’ll improvise!”.
