Bernard “Pretty” Purdie & Roy Bennett Band

From Aretha to Miles, no other drummer has seen the interior of a recording studio more often than him. Bernard “Pretty Purdie”, a groove that has shaped the history of soul, jazz and funk

Dates: 28-30.6, 2018

Bernard "Pretty" Purdie & Roy Bennett

Drummer, musician, producer, arranger and director, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie‘s career includes a record discography of more than three thousand recorded albums with more than two thousand artists (!). Long-time drummer for Aretha Franklin, Purdie has played with King Curtis, Larry Coryell, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, BB King, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, the Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and many more, without forgetting his collaboration with Louis Armstrong, on the recording of “What A Wonderful World”, among others. His colleagues describe him as the most funky and soul drum in the scene. His rhythm and groove have marked some of the most famous songs of the 20th century and have been sampled, not by chance, in numerous acid jazz, soul and dance recordings of the past years. He will be in Ascona with an r&b-soul-funk band, together with - we are proud to announce - one of the festival’s favorites, Roy Bennett, New Yorker bassist and singer of the former „Just Another Band“.
