Sugarpie & the Candymen

Winners of the Audience Award in Ascona in 2011, Sugarpie & the Candymen are an Italian quintet known for their enthralling shows. Accompanied by singer Lara Ferrari, who joined the band a few years ago, their repertoire ranges from their own personal compositions to pop, rock, soul, and jazz classics (Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and many others) rearranged using swing and jazz manouche styles. The band was discovered by Renzo Arbore in Ascona in 2014: the following year Arbore shared a stage with them at the Umbria Jazz; later, he pushed their career on Italian TV. This year’s special guest is one of the most talented jazz clarinetists on the scene, Mauro Negri.
