Dates: 22 – 24.6. 2017

Opé Smith

An artist with an exuberant energy and fascinating charm, Opé Smith certainly was the great revelation at Jazz Ascona 2016.  A real showman with a charming voice and stage presence, the French singer has attracted broad critical approval, in particular for his live shows, where he presents a soul repertoire of new songs, a mix between his own compositions and covers of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, or The Temptations – adapted with a convincing old school sound. Opé Smith stepped into the limelight at the end of 2013 with his first EP and learned the ropes in gospel choirs and in a soul collective before emerging alongside the popular Ben l’Oncle Soul. In the past years he’s been performing as soloist together with a group of musicians from the French electro jazz scene.
