A feeling for swing, interaction, excellent technique and Cannonball’s soul: last year the Swiss saxophonist Patrick Bianco (from Zurich), had triumphed at the Swiss Jazz Award 2016 with a convincing project centered around “Cannonball” Adderley. In his role of Award winner, he returns to JazzAscona with a new project that revisits New Orleans classics, from Jelly Roll Morton on. The band will perform with a special guest, saxophonist Andy McGhee. A popular professor at Berklee College of Music, in the 1960s McGhee worked together with Woody Herman. His name is however mainly tied to Lionel Hampton's band, with whom he collaborated from 1957 to 1963 and later in 70s and 90s, when he took part in the Golden Men of Jazz tour.
