Plays with Lillian Boutté & her Musicfriends
A true icon of New Orleans, winner of the 2006 Ascona Jazz Award, and a charismatic singer with a musical career spanning over thirty years, Lillian Boutté has always distinguished herself not only for her artistic talent, but also for her social commitment. In 1968 she was bestowed with the title of Musical Ambassador of New Orleans (she is the only musician other than Louis Armstrong to have been accorded this honor) and with her numerous world tours she has contributed to spreading the sounds and feeling of Louisiana, hosting among other things workshops for children. An extremely talented and versatile vocalist (often compared to Bessie Smith, Aretha Franklin, and Mahalia Jackson), she masters a wide variety of traditional African American musical styles, spanning from jazz to swing, from blues to R&B.
