Plays with Palm Court Jazz All Stars
Renowned instrumentalist Sammy Rimington is a true clarinet expert, an instrument that he plays in the style of the early 1920s. Celebrating his 50 years as a musician, he is one of the festival's most beloved artists, famous for the rhythmic complexity and engaging melodies of his solos. One of the most prolific artists in jazz history, his discography includes more than 170 recordings. Born in the U.K., Rimington was designated Honorary Citizen of the Crescent City, in honor of his strong connection to New Orleans and to its music.
“It’s very difficult to express my feelings for this kind of music,” says Rimington, “but I know after years of playing and experience that it´s one of the most difficult forms of music to play well, due to it´s simplicity and relaxed rhythmic feel. I prefer the music to be free but, controlled ... also not to be restricted and tied down to sounding like a particular band on record.” Sammy Rimington will be in Ascona with the Palm Court Jazz All Stars.
