Winner of the Ascona Jazz Award 2017, Davell Crawford’s repertoire has always included, since his debut as a teenager – with the album Let Them Talk – a variety of genres ranging from gospel, R&B, and funk, to soul and jazz. The nephew of James “Sugar Boy”Crawford, star of 1950s R&B, the 43-year-old pianist is not only considered one of the greatest musical talents from The Big Easy but also THE heir to the city's great piano tradition, which owes its beginnings to masters such as Professor Longhair and James Booker. He has been admired in Ascona but also at festivals like Montreux and Umbria Jazz.
