Monty Alexander Trio
Monty Alexander at JazzAscona: the star of piano tributes Nat King Cole
Date: 27.6, 2019
UNIQUE CONCERT
100 YEARS NAT KING COLE

One of the undoubted masters of contemporary jazz, Monty Alexander is also one of the greatest pianists in the history of jazz. A cult figure who still, aged 74, tours the world relentlessly, delighting with his vibrant personality and soulful message. His career began in 1958; he is documented on more than 75 albums and is a perennial at jazz festivals and venues across the world. His Jamaican roots are tangible in the vibrancy of his approach. Alexander applies his aesthetics to a repertoire that spans across a wide range: the American songbook and the blues, gospel and bebop, calypso and reggae.
He is however also a pianist close to the classic jazz tradition: his work and inspiration have always been rooted in the history of piano jazz. He will be on our shores for the second time (the first in 2006), with a tribute to Nat King Cole in his centennial.
