JazzAscona features Jazz from the golden age and the (funky) superpowers of Vincen García
On Friday, July 3, the festival is back in full swing: six concerts on the main stages and about fifteen acoustic sets throughout the village, for a non-stop evening of groove, traditional Jazz, and partying late into the night.
The highlight is the debut of Vincen García (10:30 p.m., New Orleans Stage), one of the most interesting bass players on the current scene. Modern, physical funk, built on deep grooves and bass lines that take center stage: one of those concerts capable of turning the stage into a dance floor. They’ll be back for the final night as well.
There’s also anticipation for the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band (8:00 p.m., New Orleans Stage), now a regular at Ascona, with its high-energy live performances, and for the festival’s more “traditional” side: Silvan Zingg’s boogie (7:30 p.m., Stage Seven) and the lakeside debut of two excellent bands that evoke the Jazz of the golden age: The Fried Seven feat. Andrew Oliver (9:45 p.m., Stage Seven), and the Syncopation Society Orchestra (11:00 p.m., Stage Elvezia), which brings the sound of the great swing orchestras to life.
The New Orleans scene is also in full swing, with NOJO5 feat. Glen David Andrews (8:30 PM, Stage Elvezia).
After midnight, the party continues with the Late Night Party hosted by JayCee (12:00 AM, Blue LLama Terrace), a DJ and dancer who knows how to keep the dance floor going late into the night.
