Antony Hervey: the trumpeter who enchanted Wynton Marsalis

The young American trumpeter Anthony Hervey, appearing at JazzAscona for the first time, has established himself internationally as a top sideman and charismatic bandleader. He graduated with a Master of Music from the Juilliard School in 2020 and was mentored by Wynton Marsalis, who calls him “an absolutely outstanding trumpeter.” He has collaborated and recorded with Christian McBride, Jon Batiste, and Michael Bublé, and regularly performs with ensembles such as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, and the Future of Jazz Orchestra. A trumpet virtuoso with remarkable expressiveness, and one of the most authoritative voices in contemporary jazz today. Leading his quintet, he presents original compositions that blend jazz, ragtime, and R&B. His debut album Words From My Horn combines soulfulness with expressive depth, rooted in the blues.
