Power, Swing and Youth: the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band returns to make JazzAscona vibrate

By popular demand, the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band returns for the third consecutive year to JazzAscona, ready to deliver two new explosive concerts together with the voices of Brigitte Wullimann and Axel Marena. The Swiss Army orchestra is an ensemble of the highest level: 18 young musicians who, during their military service, have the unique opportunity to perform in a big band capable of moving naturally from jazz to swing, and on to pop and rock. Appreciated both in Switzerland and abroad, the ensemble has been directed since 2015 by Edgar Schmid, a trombonist and accomplished musician who for many years was part of Pepe Lienhard’s Orchestra whilst touring with Udo Jürgens. It should be noted that the fee allocated to the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band will be donated to JazzAscona’s Groovin’ Up program, in support of young talents.
