JazzAscona: Jazz delights with Bert Joris, Dado Moroni, and Antonio Faraò

Gioele Pozzi

On Sunday, June 28, JazzAscona invites you to a more intimate listening experience, featuring elegant European performances, new voices, and a few forays beyond Ascona.

The highlight is the debut of trumpeter Bert Joris’s quartet (8:00 p.m., New Orleans Stage), featuring the great Dado Moroni on piano. Continuing the same spirit of sophistication, don’t miss the one-night-only performance by the Antonio Faraò Trio (9:45 p.m., Stage Seven), with Ira Coleman on double bass: a world-class pianist, acclaimed for his warmth and expressiveness.

Among the evening’s highlights, don’t miss Emma Nissen (10:30 p.m., New Orleans Stage), whose intense voice and magnetic presence have made her one of the newest rising stars of soul and gospel; she will also headline the traditional concert at the Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, which takes place tomorrow.

Torsten Goods (11:00 p.m., Stage Elvezia) wraps up his Ascona adventure with a set that’s more groove-oriented.

In the early evening, the HSLU Big Band feat. Miss C-Line (8:30 p.m., Stage Elvezia) brings a young Big Band and an up-and-coming Swiss vocalist to the stage.

There are two events outside Ascona: Sabine McCalla (2:30 p.m., Brissago Islands) and Frog & Henry (8:00 p.m., Brione sopra Minusio).
